  1. Hey Nick, I thought you did a great job with your Microteaching 1. I liked how you incorporated the Powerpoint Presentation in the lesson, and it was obvious you were well prepared. I also thought the topic of balancing equations was a good choice for this activity. The problems you selected as practice ran from easy to hard, so we were not bored at all during our time to complete the worksheet. It was a good range of difficulty that would certainly keep the students engaged.

  2. Hey Nick. Here are my thoughts on your first microteaching.

First off, I think you presented yourself very well. You were dressed professionally and spoke clearly, slowly, and confidently. That's definitely a good thing to get from a teacher because it makes the students confident that you know what you're talking about.

Your explanation of the subject and how to balance chemical equations was also good. I personally had some difficulties understanding the concept, though, so perhaps having some ways of slowly and simply explaining it for students who are having difficulties would be a good idea. Also, I think the practice problems were a bit difficult, so maybe making things a bit simpler would help in the future.

Overall, I think you did a nice job with this lesson, especially considering the subject matter was a bit difficult. Nice work!

  3. Hello Nick. I really enjoyed your Chemistry lesson. Your presence was great and you seemed very comfortable in the teacher role. I really loved the chart that you explained in the beginning of your lesson, I wish I knew about it when I was in high school chemistry, it would have made it easier for me! Your worksheet was great and utilized perfectly. The only issue I can come up with is that your problems were a bit too difficult. Taylor and I were working together and (perhaps it's because we're both English concentrations) we had a lot of trouble balancing one or two of your equations. What would have helped is if we had thought to use your chart. When we went to balance the equations we started using traditional mathematics (falling on habit), instead of thinking to plug the numbers into your chart. In the future I'd suggest saying outright (however redundant it may be) that you suggest using the chart you just showcased to solve the equations. Or, even better, it would have been nice if you had included an empty chart on the side of your handout. All in all, however, I really enjoyed your lesson. You sounded and acted like a teacher (in fact you really reminded me of my sophomore science teacher!). Great job!
